I for one am intrigued as hell by Ferenc's mention of
the original bass player for the Surf Coasters. I'm
not nearly the rabid fan that everyone else here is so
this might be real old news to everyone else but I've
got two albums and the DVD (always plan on catching
up, haven't yet) and I a) never knew that there had
been another bass player in the beginning and b)
always assumed that Naka had always been the main
songwriter. If this guy had written all of those
songs, why is it that he never popped up in another
band?
And is there some special signifigance attached to
having your eyes blacked out in a photograph in
Japanese culture? If they didn't talk about it then
there must be some pretty bad blood.

Apparently Tomo DJs and is a part of something--a band, maybe?--called Far East
Otoboke United. I tried translating some of what I found about them, and and
according to BabelFish, "The member is just 2 people of sugar admiral and red
month General." Hope that clears up some of the confusion.
He's also credited as production co-ordinator on a few albums, as part of the
record label Flying Tapirus.
