Re: diPinto or the jaguar

james (mayor_of_carmel) - 12 Feb 2003 21:22:07

I'm in the market for a new guitar
and I was thinking of either getting a diPinto Belvedere or a Japanese
Fender Jaguar
I have about 500-600 bucks to spend and I'd like something sweet
any suggestions?
thanks

yeah, they do look cool
I've also been looking at some of the reverend guitars - I've heard some
really great things about them - especially the 'spy'

You might want to check out the Dipinto Mach IV, those
things look great. If my tax return is large enough
to allow the ridiculous spending of around $500 then
I'll probably order one. All in all, the Dipintos are
reportedly great guitars in the middle price range.

Hi,
Check also the Di Pinto DP-11 and DP-4 models out, these babies have a
floating tremolo unit, like the Fender Jag and Jazz and the apear to be
based on the Jaguar, altough they have four single coil pick-ups, I saw
them lited at
Hope this helps,
Jerry S. from Belgium (after a quick Google search)

No, just thought it had possibilities for a surfing machine. Plus it has
competition stripes!

I've got my vintage Hummaster, I mean Jazzmaster, but wanted to enter Jag
territory, and I think the Cyclone II looks like fun...has ANYBODY played /
gigged with one? Especially thru a Showman or other large Fender amp? I'd like
your input.......

My Cyclone II should be getting here either tomorrow
or Saturday. I'll post a review.

Well, I've had it for over a week now and it's
definitely what I was looking for. The reason I
haven't posted anything about it is because I'm still
trying to set it up. It was like new when I got it,
and I paid about half of retail so I can't complain.
I have minimal experience stringing electrics with
different gauge strings, so right now I'm waiting to
get to the shop so I can get a pack of replacement
strings. I just got around to it today and it turns
out I cut the low E string too short, so to get it
tuned and wrapped around the peg at least once I had
to tune it too tight, which pulled the trem way up. I
added a fourth spring, but it's still way up (not to
mention a lot tighter than the other strings) so I'm
going tomorrow to either get some more strings or just
get another low E.
I had counted on the tighter gauge strings to pull the
neck up far enough to eliminate the buzzing, which it
did on the low E (which is too tight) but the A string
is still buzzing. All the others seem pretty much ok.
I've never messed with a truss rod before so I'm
going to try it tomorrow after I get the new strings
and see how it goes. I might wind up just taking it
in and paying for a set up.
Aside from these few minor obstacles, the guitar is
extremely nice, especially for what I paid for it.
The first day I had it I took it and played it through
a Hot Rod Deluxe at the local shop and I'm pretty sure
that's what I'm going for when my tax money comes.
The fit and finish on the guitar are very nice and I'm
very happy with it. I'd describe the sound as
"Jaguar-esque" but you can really do alot with it
since each pickup has an individual on/off switch.
I'll write more on it once I've got it all
straightened out.
If anybody has any do-it-yourself setup tips I'd like
to hear them.
Richard
