Re:Dick and Stevie doin Pipeline, was. expanding SURF MUSIC to newer audiences

Jeff (bigtikidude) - 16 Jan 2006 23:43:18

I can't stand it, to Rawk sounding.
Dick stomps all over it like a Big Dinosaur, and Stevie(whO I Usually
like everything he did) sounded to weedley weedley on it.
That's one of those songs that has to have a layed back relaxed vibe
to it, with Lots of drip drip drip.
An no I don't like the Johnny Thunders and Anthrax versions either
and Antharx was one of my favorite metal bands.
But cool that they dide it, just didn't have the vibe.

Jeff,
If you have a case of the jaws over the DD/SRV version of
Pipeline, then how does the Agent Orange version grab ya?
And is my memory on the fritz, or didn't the movie show
the pair on a stage doing the tune, right at the end?
It was effectively at the punch line of the whole thing,
and I recall that there was a load of kids watching the
jam going down. I dunno, but that's what's playing on
the screen behind my eyes right now.
Or is my imagination really that much better than the
movie - you tell me. <g>

Of non surf bands doin Pipeline, I like AO's version quite a bit,
and the other surf/spy stuff they did.
But I wouldn't compare it to the original at all. Good punk vibe, but
lost the original feel of it(But I'm sure Mike knows that).
I haven't seen the whole "Back to the Beach" movie, just bits and
pieces.
