Miserlou on BBC6! (was: Miserlou NPR)

ipongrac - 10 Jan 2006 12:18:54

Check out Saturday's Rock Show on BBC6 (BBC's internet radio
station). This is a weekly show hosted by Bruce Dickinson, the singer
for the metal legends Iron Maiden. The show is dedicated to heavy
rock, whether metal, punk, grunge, classic hard rock, emo, whatever,
and almost exclusively post-'68 (actually, Miserlou has been the only
pre-'68 song I remember hearing on the show). Well, this week's show
had Dick's Miserlou, which Bruce introduced with "Dick Dale, surfing
legend extraordinaire"! It followed some 20 minutes of mostly vintage
punk by the Stranglers, Stiff Little Fingers, etc., and was shortly
followed by the Ramones - great stuff! (Unfortunately, on the show
tracklist the song's listed as Peter Gunn - and Bruce identified it as
such afterwards - he also said it was from a BBC session, so I got
excited we'd hear something rare and live, but alas, it was not to
be. I emailed the show with this correction, maybe you can do it,
too.)
anyway, go here if you want to hear it:
.shtml
Click on the right where it says Listen Again to the Latest Show. You
can fast-forward to 43 minutes into the show where Bruce introduces
Dick, and then the song itself is about 53 minutes into the show.
Maybe there IS something to all that "Father of Heavy Metal" hype! :)
Enjoy!
Ivan
