Ventures Playing Pachinko

Zone Fighter (zonefighter) - 06 Jan 2006 21:18:52

This video was posted to another group I subscribe to.
It is the Ventures playing Pachinko (a Japanese variation on Pinball
not a song) in Japan in 1966 or so...
The file is about 6.5MB, I thought some of you might find it interesting.
If the direct link above doesn't work here is a page with the video
embedded in it...

Yeah that's from "The Beloved Invaders"...
I watched that for the first time recently, and I gotta say, I was
very impressed with the playing...those guys were really on fire! I
have a whole new respect for them now.
The rest of the movie is DULL, DULL, DULL, and incomprehensibly
DULL...as they boys are dubbed (badly) in Japanese. They wander
various Japanese cities, fondle clothing, play pachinko, take cab
rides....ugh...awful.
During the drum solo in Caravan, instead of focusing on Mel playing,
or showing scenes of Mel riding a tractor or dragster (sorry I keep
slipping in the Led Zep reference), they show REPEAT scenes of the
guys doing the same DULL DULL DULL stuff from earlier in the movie! I
was ready to kick some ass at that point.
But definitely worth watching for the performances. Wow!

While I figured it must have been the game Pachinko, I kind of did a
double-take... as a number of you know, the Lava Rats have a song
called "Pachinko" on Surfing the Magma.
I will add for the record, that the name of the song was inspired by
our desire to find a goofy word to yell in the pauses, and our bass
player looked over and asked what the name was for that goofy
looking machine sitting in the corner of my garage. You just never
know what will happen when you have an old pachinko machine sitting
around the house....
