Mosrite again

madluca2002 - 05 Feb 2003 15:29:04

Hello...one more question to Mosrite.
My "Blue Book of Electric Guitars" says, 6string Mosrite "Ventures
Model" series were built between 1959-1965 only, available in
diff. colors. But often I find dealer who offer 1966, ..67, ..68etc.
Ventures models. How comes? Anyone smarter than me??

There was a small number of custom mades and
prototypes anticipating the later Ventures model,
which production was started in 1963, I think the
co-op with the band stopped in 1968, and the model’s
name was changed to Mark V or something.

Marco:
after 1965 they were called the "Ventures II" model.
During the 1980's, the same style guitar had yet another
name...but I don't remember.

The Ventures II was added to the product line, it was
sort of a lower market, entry level Mosrite, easily
distinguished by the parallel pick-ups with stealth
polepieces.
Semie Moseley started using the Ventures name again
during the 70s, in the 80s he introduce similar
guitars, missing the german carve. One such model was
the M-88.

Kahuna:
thanks for the wisdom!
Mosrite is definately a venerable American design.
I loved my "Mosrite of California" solid body bass (circa
1972. Great neck, unique tone. I miss it. Did you know that
in Surf Rock Heaven, you get to choose between a Mosrite an
pre-CBS Jaguar, a vintage Jazzmaster or a 1960 Dick Dale
model stratocaster? I'm pickin' the Mosrite.
