Re: Best of 2005? and a band reforms.

surfneptune - 27 Dec 2005 12:59:42

Whow, I never thought that demo would even get a mention, thanks folks...
(Ferenc you
are too much!) it is unofficail in that it is burned on cdr media, and also it
has covers which
I don't like to release. But Jay was right that we should put it out, (let that
be a lesson, it
may not suck that bad, you may be too close to the music to be a good judge.)
Even
getting mentioned here is like GOLD to us.
Another note, Steve Carter quit the band... again. And while this is a drag, the
beauty of
the doublenecks was that it was like two bands... so we picked up a bass player
and
wham, we only had half a set of new music to write and/or learn. So you will
meet John
Crossen, a great bass player with vintage gear and a love for surf, (he came to
the first
practice and nailed "attack of the aqua marines" on the first take, which has
kinda
confusing timing) And he fits in like crazy. A nicer guy you will not meet.
So I feel like the neptune glass is way more than half full, but since I am the
only original
Neptune left, I think it is time to change the name....
What do you all think?
tom
Happy new year to you all!

As long as you have double-necks and Fezs (fezzes?
Fezi?) you should be the Neptunes. You have a lot of
goodwill attached to that name that you have rightly
earned.

Tom,
I don't see why you have to change the band name, but if you do, name Tommy
Neptune and the Nep-tones?

Ferenc,
Thanks for the input, you nailed my biggest fear of tossing out all that equity,
even though
in hind site it was a poor name choice originaly, 10 years ago (yep 06 is our
10th year) I
was new to the world of surf and the hip-hop guys called the Neptunes didn't
even exist at
the time.
My double is going to the new bass guy, its a four over 6 string bass (or
baritone) now...
So I gotta get a whammy for my danecelectro baritone/guitar double, until I can
afford a
set up like Hap (yeah I drool on his red double too, now it has TWO maple
necks!) I have
really enjoyed playing my old 63 strat, which never got out since we got the
doubles, but I
miss the right arm support that the double body affords, my shoulder actually
hurt after
the gig because I had no place to rest my arm. We may or may not fez... we will
see. I hope
the other guys want to cause i dig the fez.
Mel,
Neptones is very cool! When I set up my group account, I called my self tom
neptune so
folks would know what band I was from, I didn't even think of it like the
Ramones did (as a
last name). Should we be Los Neptones? :)
Thanks!

Tom
sorry to hear about the line up change again, but if it works for
the Better, good luck.
I say Keep the name, unless you've been having legal trouble with
it from the other bands with the same name.
As for the cdr, what if you just sold it to the people on the yahoo
groups as cdr's and kept it low key. Not actually press real ones
with bar codes and etc....
Just some thoughts from a So. Cal. Neptunes Fan.

Seasons Greetings, Tom!
Sorry to hear of Steve's departure, but I know you
guys will carry on just fine. Keep the name! You have a
lot investedin establishing the Neptunes name. If you have
to change it, I like Los Neptones (Atta boy, Mel!). The CDR
kicks butt! I hope there is a new CD in the works for 2006.
For what it's worth, I vote that you keep the fez's.
One question: How the hell do you play a full set on those
double-necks? 20 Minutes on a Les Paul, and I'm ready for
the chiropractor. Look forward to hearing the new lineup in
2006.

Thanks Bob,
It BURNS.... Some gigs are better than others, but you get this
burning sensation between your shoulderblades. But I got so
used to it that a standard guitar feels like a teeeeny little
rubberband thing... it is really odd, like there is nothing to hold on
to. Kinda insecure.
