Re: Best of 2005? - KCR Fundraising Compilation

Rick Wilkinson (surfonica) - 25 Dec 2005 11:15:16

Just released inside the 2005 deadline (but probably won't "hit" until January,
2006) is the KCR Radio AZTEC BEACH fundraising compilation.
It literally just came out last week, so not too many of you have it. I know
BigTikiDude has it, and some other So. Cal regulars, plus the bands on the comp
too.
I agree with Ferenc that the "academy" should be composed of people who have
listened to full CD's, but samples from AZTEC BEACH are posted at
www.RickshawRecords.com. Just click the AZTEC BEACH banner, then click on any of
the bands on the AZTEC BEACH page.
You can order from www.RickshawRecords.com or visit www.kcralumni.org. All
income goes directly to KCR, to help support college radio like Clint
Beachwood's "A Day at the Beach" radio show.

I've been alittle bit hesitant to review this, as I am a good friend
of Clints, and he has invited me on his show many times, and I will
be on there this coming Thurs. Dec 29th.
So I'll just give a quciky statement.
I'm a big fan of compilations, as it's a great way to find out about
new bands that you may not have heard of, or to get some songs that
aren't on their cds.
Well this is the perfect comp for both(espicailly if your not from
So. Cal.) This cd has some of the best of the So. Cal. surf scene to
offer. And All the songs are (live versions) so you know that you
won't be getting any songs that you allready have.
I've listened to this cd about 4 times and am really happy with it.
I know (Rat pack)Mike the guy that recorded all the shows used for the
source of where they got the recordings from. And he does excellent
job. Also Rick and Clint's work on putting the whole thing together.
This is a must pick up cd, Plus the Profits go to only the Station
upgrades badly needed.
Happy Holidays, and Merry Chritmas everybody,
Jeff(bigtikidude)

I would say thumbs up for the KCR fundraiser! I have had the CD for a couple of
weeks and
have listened several times. It has a lot of great bands and great tunes! I
would
recommend it to instrumental surf lovers everywhere.
Thanks
Guy
