Link Wray Video "Trail of the Lonesome Pine" 1960

Brian Neal (xarxas) - 23 Dec 2005 12:03:23

I've been trying to upload this video clip to the group's file area
off and on for a few weeks...I think it must be too big. After getting
nowhere with Yahoo tech support I gave up and hosted it on my site. I
got this clip from John Detrich ()
via Ted Pilgrim (A/V wizard). Here is the description in John's words:
"I got a video of Link on the Jack Spector show from 1960. It's a nice
artifact as I don't know of any video or film of him from that era. He
guitar-syncs rather than lip-syncs "Trail of the Lonesome Pine" on it
with his Dano Longhorn."
Sorry John I didn't post this sooner. Thanks to Ted for the technical
help in bringing it to us.
Here's da link...it'll be up for a limited time:

Wow!
This is awesome. Seems like old Link Wray clips are harder to find that
old Dick Dale clips.
Thanks!

Cool! Looks like he dropped a pick and stopped to pick it up, but he
was just "pick syncing" (?) to the record. One of those things that
make you wonder ;-)

Yeah, looks like he had a big smile on his face after the "pick-up" - I
wonder why ;) Very cool stuff!

Kind of a hokey song but neat to see anyway. It was cool seeing the
host hold up his "new" album.

Brian,
Sometimes you just have to take matters into your own hands. I could
have made it a smaller file, but the quality of the original made it
tough... If anyone cares, the Jack Spector Show was a local
Providence, RI dance show. The guy with jack as he introduces Link is
none other than Bob Crewe who would score big a couple of years later
playing his trumpet on Music To Watch Girls By. He must have been
climbing his way up during this appearance where he sang a lame song
and fell back on his good looks. The whole sow is pretty entertaining,
so thanks to john for helping me add to my collection. These local
shows are much harder to come by than Bandstand or other national shows.
