Vintage Band Master Head

Dick Stewart (rvstewartproductions) - 22 Dec 2005 19:52:16

This note is directed to you vintage Fender amp
experts.
I've been using a vintage Band Master tube head for
quite some time now while performing with The Knights
and I've finally decided to sell it.
I'm going to list it on Ebay, but I'm not sure what
the year is.
Here's some specs:
1. Black face with white knobs
2. Serial number - 56207
3. Two normal channels and two vibrato channels each
with volume, treble and bass controls; however,
vibrato channels have speed and intensity controls.
4. Power Supply - 117 volts 50/60 cycles
5. Power Consumption - 175 watts
If you could pinpoint a year, it would be appreciated.

Hi Dick,
can you get to transformer codes, it's the easiest way. this is C/P
from ampwares (see below). basically, you look for a number starting
with 606, and then if there are three digits after that (most likly),
than the first of those three is the last digit of the year. (of the
tranny; add some months for the amp date.)
btw, if you just google fender amp dating you'll get a gazzilion more
things to look at, but for selling purposes this would do. - if you
suspect it's either just before or after cbs's take-over (jan '65)
start checking details, because you'd want to be sure when selling.
WR
EIA Source-Date Codes: Electronic components such as transformers,
potentiometers, speakers, and some capacitors are often stampted with
a date code indicating who manufactured them and when. The code
follows the format: XXXYY ZZ where:
XXX = a two or three (possibly four on newer amps) digit number
indicating the manufacturer. (see chart below)
YY = is a one or two digit code indicating the year. If it's a one
digit year you need to determine the correct decade of the amp some
other way.
ZZ = a number from 1 - 52 indicating the week of the year.
Remember, your amp is newer than the newest component. So if you find
pots from late 68 and transformers from early 69 you can be pretty
sure your amp is a 1969. Common Fender Source Codes Code Manufacturer
