I have seen that picture also....If memory serves me correct, Jimi played lead
guitar with it on Peppermint Twist. Also seems as if Joe Peschi played rhythm
guitar with Joey D and the Starlighters during that period......anyone know for
sure?????? ed

I remember seeing a picture of Jimi playing a
Jazzmaster once and believe I remember someone saying
on the Fender Forum that Jimmy actually preferred the
body shape of the JM but the trem wouldn't do what the
Strat trem will (which we all know is true), so that
was the guitar that he stuck with. I wonder if the JM
would've reached the same iconic status the Strat has
if it'd been Jimi's first choice, or Stevie Ray's, or
one of those guys.
I think I remember seeing a picture of a guitar player
backing Elvis (Scotty Moore?) playing a Jazzmaster.
I've seen them pop up, oddly enough, in rockabilly
shows here and there. Who was the crazy rockabilly
piano player with the glass eye? I saw a concert of
his (probably from the 70's) on DVD and his guitar
player was playing a Sherwood Green Jazzmaster with
blocks.
Elvis Costello made the JM recognizable on the cover
of "My Aim is True."
My favorite non-surf Jazzmaster player of all time is
Kevin Stevenson of The Shods. I don't think they're
in business anymore but that guy beat rock 'n roll out
of that thing as fearlessly as any Strat or Tele
player I've ever seen.
