Gear Question - May be boring, but I need some help.

Chris (kahunatikiman) - 17 Dec 2005 13:42:48

I'm hoping my Surf Brethren can help me answer a few questions...
I just bought a 15" JBL speaker. It says "Model 130F-2" and is a
4 ohm speaker. It looks just like a D130F. I have googled, and
haven't found any info on this particular speaker. I understand from
the previous owner that it came straight out of a standel amp
cabinet.
Is this a D130F 4ohm speaker? What kind of watts can it take? my
idea is to use it in my new single 15" cabinet for my Dual Showman.
Thanks!
Chris

I also have a factory 4-ohm one with a black frame that was made for a
Peavey amp. Standel used JBL's (for their "hi-fi sound"), but the few
I've seen had non-F D-130's, which reputedly can't take as much power.
If you have one with an original cone, I wouldn't play on 11, but if
you're doing the clean thing on 4-5, you should be ok. You'll be
drawing the same power the speaker in a single Showman. Cool find!
