A simple search will find lots of cool videos. There are two of
Duane Eddy. One with a Gretsch, one with a Guild.

Being a huge fan of The Fall, I was stoked to find videos of The Monks (who
The Fall cover), especially The Monk Chant. The Count Five¹s Psychotic
Reaction was cool too.

I think the Shadows video is intriguing on several levels. First, it features
mostly beach scenes
- one wonders if this was a in reaction to or in anticipation of surf music, or
just a
coincidence? Second, it is oddly reminiscent of early Beatles film work -
leading me to
wonder if the Beatles weren't influenced by this brief Shadows film? Anyway, it
was good
watchin'.

I'm in no way a European film historian. But I believe the guy who
did the Beatles film a Hard Day's Night did a funny short called the
running jumping standing still, or something like that, and that's why
the Beatles liked him. I think it's that European humor, and you
certainly see it in the Shadows video.

As much as I love the Shads, the influence goes the other way - Hard
Day's Night was already out by the time the Shads did their short
film called "Rhythm'n'Greens" in the Fall of '64. It's rarely seen,
and it wasn't distributed widely - though I managed to get a copy.
It's pretty silly stuff, and definitely Beatles influenced. It
tells a story of British beaches through the millenia, accompanied
by the music of the Shads. So, the prehistoric times has them
wearing animal skins and playing bones and skulls (the song is
called "The Drum Number"); the medival times has them playing lutes,
etc. (and the song is, appropriately, "The Lute Number"); finally,
the modern days have them in the full Beat-Boom mode, playing the
title track, which is a pun on very popular rhythm'n'blues played by
really young, skinny white British kids - the 'greens'. The song
itself definitely makes fun of the whole Beatles/Stones thing, with
a bunch of thrown-together raucus blues licks played over a typical
I-IV-V progression, and the Shads 'singing' the immortal lyrics "Yea-
Baby-Ugh-Agh!" over and over again - kinda like the Beatles
circa '63-'64. :) (There was also a Roman bit with another song, and
King Canute, played by Cliff Richard in a cameo, ordering the waves
to recede, plus a few other bits.) This kind of goofy humor was not
originated by the Beatles, but comes from the Goons (with Peter
Sellers as a member of the ensemble), a popular British radio and TV
(?) show in the fifies.
I have no idea whether the beach theme of the movie had anything to
do with surf music. It's possible, but unlikely.
Finally, the rest of the footage in the video was mostly from the
Cliff Richard movies (with Shads as guests) The Young Ones ('62) and
Summer Holiday ('63), though there were a few other video bits from
their TV appearances (and their '76 Eurosong contest, where they
took the second place).

Thanks for clearing that up...because the video referenced the date for Apache,
I assumed
the video was from that same time.

Dick Lester was the director of A Hard Day's Night. That film has to
be one of my favorites of all-time. And you are correct about him
directing the Running Jumpin Standing Still Picture.

The Yardbirds' "I'm A Man" video is great! The go go girls dancing in the
cages brings back memories of my first live gig in '67: we played Wipeout
for a go go girl contest - I was twelve and scared spitless, but it actually
came off okay. My guitar and amp were made by Guya Tone, which my father
brought back with him from Japan (Air Force). The guitar had a tremelo bar,
and the amp had reverb and tremelo. Wish I still had them!
