error about Showman amps in the Fender Amps book (Teagle & Sprung)

ipongrac - 15 Dec 2005 11:44:26

I just noticed there's an important error about Showman and Dual
Showman amps in the Fender Amps book - it really surprised me. I
thought that book was pretty reliable.
On top of page 113 the authors discuss the difference between the
blackface Showman and Dual Showman, which of course is basically a
different output transformer (and thus impedence). They say that the
single Showman output transformer is 125A29A and the Dual Showman
output transformer is 125A30A. Well, that's backwards.
In fact, the Dual Showman uses the 4-ohm 125A29A OT (as does the Twin
Reverb), while the single Showman uses the 8-ohm 125A30A OT.
Just thought some of you might want to know about this.

Yeah, I've got the Showman Amp AB763 Schematic hanging up in my
cubicle at work (to remind me what I could be doing...), and it shows
TR3 as 125A29A for a Dual Showman and 125A30A for a Single. There is
one other difference, a resistor (47 Ohm for Single and 100 for Dual).

Ivan, are you ambushing an amp on ebay? did you by any chance happen to
ask a question about it to seller about the trannies, before posting
this?
I just replied to the ebay add, saying that the one asking the question
about the trannies has his info backwards (the 4 vs 8 ohm thing) ....
only AFTER sending the reply did I see that the question was asked by a
certain "Ivan".
too funny. "huh? is there anything else on the internet besides SG101
and ebay?" (closes eyse and falls back asleep on desk)

Wannes, yep, that was me! I'm gonna bid on that Showman - as long
as it doesn't go above $500 (which all of them have been doing
recently, dammit!).
And yes, SG101 and eBay is where I spend pretty much all of my
internet time! We're very, very sad people.... :)
