Re: [SurfGuitar101] Re: Truss Rods (Rickenbacker)

DP (noetical1) - 10 Dec 2005 17:30:22

I just checked out www.rickenbacker.com
there is a pdf handbook there that discusses ric truss rod
adjustment:
I read a little, and the truss rod adjustment does seem
unique...it seems that Rickenbacker suggests bending the
neck to the proper position by hand, and then tightening
the truss rod to hold the new position...sounds
tricky-ricky for sure!
good luck,
-dp

Thanks for the tips all. I guess I could've gone to the web site myself
first. Duh. Of course first hand experience does go a long way over
manuals in my opinion.

I've been adjusting truss rods for years on Fenders (remove the neck),
Gibsons and Guilds and have never been afraid to do it, but I take
my '64 360/12 to my trusted tech if it needs a truss rod adjustment. I
have heard some horror stories about the old Ricks and this one is
worth too much to chance it.
my 2 cents.
BTW - I put a set of Pyramid flats on it and it's never sounded better -
but they put more tension on the neck than the Ric strings, and the
factory does not officially recommend anything but Ric strings.
