first tune I ever learned on guitar (and why it's a great beginer's tune)

DP (noetical1) - 06 Dec 2005 17:31:22

The very first tune I ever, ever, ever learned on guitar was the Batman
Theme.
The forward and backward finger progression was very helpful to build
initial dexterity and callouses on new tender fingertips. The
repetitive picking pattern help build right-hand downstroke pick
ability and coordination. The rhythym was simple and easy to remember...
"na na na na na na na na BATMAN!"
The Batman chord progression is simple for the beginer to comprehend.
I still use Batman Theme to teach absolute beginers some of the initial
concepts in guitar playing: playing posture, one finger per fret, fret
hand shape, picking hand beginer technique, basic rhythym, basic chord
proression ideas, note names, flat and sharp...etc.
There is a lot too that simpple theme to get someone going with their
guitar, and it's a tune almost everyone still recognizes to this day.
