Even more dumb questions from the midwest!

midwest_surf_guy - 28 Nov 2005 22:05:58

I have had several people from the group suggesting that a Mexican Strat would
be a good
guitar for me to start out with. I have a dumb question, "Is a Mexican Strat
just a Strat made
in Mexico?" "Or is a Mexican Strat a specific model of Strat?" I have found a
few strats listed
as a Mexican Strat but on a lot of major guitar sites I see no such model
listed.
Thanks Guy

I also forgot to ask if a Gdec would be a good amp for me to practice using
headphones?

Guy,
Hmmm, don't know why no one else has jumped on this yet.
Here goes......
Yes, you surmised correctly, a Strat made mainly in old
Mexico is properly called a Mexican Strat. It might use
parts made in the USA, Mexico, or even in Asia, but it's
where the thing was assembled that counts.
If the serial number is intact, and it contains the letter
"M", then you have a Mexican Strat in your hands. And
many of these units, both old and new, are quite good in
both sound and feel. Not all of them, mind you, but if
you're careful, you won't get burned.

G-Dec? Don't know, it's kind of a toss-up. No way
will it sound like original surf, but it isn't a bad
amp for the price. Try it..... if it sounds tolerable
to you, then do it.

I have a gdec and think it is perfect for practicing. It has a surf
setting that sounds really good through headphones. The drums sound
good also, although I normally turn the volume of the accompanying
bass to its lowest level.
I love the amp.
