re: dick dale

DP (noetical1) - 27 Nov 2005 12:33:02

Generally, Dick Dale is a real nice guy when you meet him
in person. Onstage he has the "Dick Dale persona", but
offstage he's sort of a combination of your favorite uncle
Dick (or Grandpa Dick) and a big attention defficeit kid
who never grew up totally...always bouncing from one
acttivity to the next...
I agree with Phil and Brian, after shows or away from the
stage, Dick Dale is one of the coolest and most gracious
people you would ever meet. He built (and still is
building) an amazing following simply on his character and
charisma...one handshake at a time.
I was fortunate to visit Dick at his 29 Palms Ranch a few
years back. He cooked me a hotdog on the BBQ...hung out and
Dick shot illegal fireworks into the desert sky. His son
was having an end-of-the-season Little League Party...Dick
seemed like the "team Mom"...
Dick's cool, that's all I know...

Thank your lucky stars you're not likely to ever encounter the side of DICK
that he shows to his backup musicians!!

Bruce,
Yeah, I have heard stories about Dick's "business"
side...from what I gather, he's pretty "hardcore" to work
for...pushy and rude etc...

That's putting it WAY more mildly than the way I've heard it from people
who've spoken with former members of DD's band!!
