I know a lot of people here were lucky enough to see
Link on his last tour. Some reported his shows as
lackluster, others -certainly the show I saw- were
transcendental. Link, just months away from death, was
a punk rock god. He was the archetype for all black
leather to follow. He simply did not give a damn, and
played it exactly the way he wanted to.

Oh yeah...me too...I'm deeply saddened. It was Jack the Ripper for me.
That song struck me like a bolt of lightning and was part of the
reason I started investigating 60's rock-n-roll. Link was definitely
one of the good ones....and can you imagine playing live at 76? God

I was one of those lackluster reviewers, but I was
attempting to be honest and not derogatory. The guy
still played like a madman but he was, after all, 75
years old. Jeezus, he only had one lung. He was on
an international rock 'n roll tour, at the age of 75,
with one lung. Who was it on this list that said, "He
rocks twice as hard with half as many lungs"? Whoever
you are, I quote you all the time. I've got nothing
but slobbering hero worship for Link Wray. Of all the
rock 'n roll deaths in recent memory (The Ramones, Joe
Strummer, Johnny Cash), I see Link's as the least
tragic. He toured the last year of his life. He had
one helluva run. His accomplishments can never be
eclipsed and he had an impact on rock 'n roll the
likes of which will never be seen again.

Very well said.
On my way home tonight I was listening to NPR (National Public Radio)
and they did a piece on Link and played Rumble in nearly it's
entirely. It kind of choked me up actually. Can you imagine what it
must have been like to hear that song in 1958...with those scary
chords and scramble chorus?
It kind of burns me up that he died on November 5th, and we are just
now hearing about it. I can forgive the family for not updating their
website right away, but you'd think the mainstream media would have
picked up on it sooner.
But...what Richard said.

Here here Richard,
I liked Links Music alot, and went and saw him 4 times, over the
past 8 years. I was very sad to report that I thought his last
show was not up to par. Hope nobody thought I was taking glee
in seeing his decline. it saddened me very much.

Well I'm sure most know that He wasn't surf.
But I am really greatful for his contributions to instro rock, and
surf in a roundabout way. Link's Music is the grouchy older Unkle to
