Re: [SurfGuitar101] Re: SD JM PUs

How do the Antiquities compare to the Duncan SJM-1 Vintage pickups?
Anybody played with both?
I've got the Vintage pickups in my MIJ Jazzmaster and like 'em. But then
I've never played an actual vintage Jazzmaster. Perhaps ignorance is bliss.

Yeh and whats the differance (windings, type of wire, number of
windings, type of magnet)I use SJM-1 in my MIJ and they are better than
stock but not perfect. Miller (Hi Rick !)

I've been wondering that also. I have SJM-1s in my 90's Japanese
Jaguar (yes Jazzmaster pickups in a Jaguar, does that make it a
Jaggmaster or a Jazzguar?) I had a 1963 Jazzmaster and have played my
brother's 1959 Jazzmaster (it was the first guitar I ever played and I
never got over it.) The Duncan's don't sound that different to me (of
course I have Tinnitus from 30 years of unprotected Punk Rock...)
I've also been wondering how the new Fender American Vintage pickups
compare to the various Duncan Jazzmaster pickups.

the name 'jagmaster' is used for the squier offset model with low grade
strat pups ;-)

Los Straitjackets were endorsing Jagmasters for a while (those had
Humbuckers!) What were they thinking (other than you'll give us free amps
and good guitars too... OK!)
Well, my JaGGmaster has two G's and is built for Surf. The extra G makes all
the difference! I prefer Jaggmaster to Jazzguar myself....

Actually the model with the cheap-o Strat pups was a
very short-lived model from Fender Japan following the
end of the Vista Series...I assume because of the
success of the Vista Jagmaster. These had a three
pickup-Strat configuration and look really cool, but I
have never, repeat, never seen one without a cracked
neck pocket. Too bad.

I put a set of Vintage Vibe humbucker-sized P-90's
made with (supposedly) the same type of magnets that
are used for Strat pickups in my Vista Jagmaster and
it's now a great surf guitar. The newer Jagmasters
are the least expensive way that I know of to get an
offset or a shortscale Fender.

That must be what the guitar player (who is Japanese) is playing in
the street during the opening of the Jimmy Kimmel show. Every time I
see that I go "what is that & where can I get one!"
