While we are on the subject of Japanese surf bands I want to mention
The El Caminos. They don't get talked about very much. I don't know
very much about them either, but I think they are great!

Apparently they have a new album out in Japan--I saw a mini-CD copy on eBay
recently. Seemed to have the same covers vs. originals balance as "Reverb
Explosion."
Great band. Anybody else love their Hendrix cover?

Yep. I do enjoy The RFs and El Caminos as well.
I do want to mention Jackie and The Cedrics in the same breath. Prolific
with 7" recordings. Great performers!

So there's the Royal Fingers, Surf Coasters, el Caminos, Jackie & the
Cedrics (personal faves), Mach Kung Fu, the Panasonics (sort of), &
the Neatbeats (some instro). What other fab japanese Bands are out
there in the surf/instro vein?

Warren..this is good news. Did they ever do anything besides "Reverb
Explosion" (and this new one you saw)?
BN
Dr. K, Whys, Pebbles, Blue Horizon, Charlie and the
Hot Wheels come to mind.

I have a japanese import ep - 9 songs - 6 of which are on reverb
exexplosion, 3 are not. Royal Fingers and El Caminos are both great in
my opinion - both have great sound. I prefer both over the Surf
Coasters, although I have nothing against the coasters. Since we're
on that side of the world, the Alohas (Australia) aren't too bad
either - full sound with two guitars, organ and sax.

Also the Sellcancers and Goggle-A. Plus the Wild Sazanami Beat comps have a
handful of songs by other Japanese surf acts whose names escape me at the
moment. (God Surfers were one, I think.)
On the more garage-y side of things there's Mad 3, Switch Trout and Howling
Guitar, among others.
