Fitting now that Interstellar Stomp really isn't able to be found on
CD. Decent amount of unreleased material. The live Red Sunrise would
be awesome to hear.
Anything else on this Ivan?

Phew!,
Thank you Larry for getting us off of that Eric Johnson thread and
back into something surfy! The guitar might be cool, but I see that
name and automatically start yawning. Didn't we agree to stop talking
about this non-Surf related dude awhile ago?
Sorry EJ fans, but Ivan's more like it!

Well, I'm not sure what I can add. It's mostly a collection of
songs from the two CDs, though it does have two vinyl-EP-only
tracks: Space Probe (originally by the Chantays, from the Fathoms
split-EP) and Metsakukkia (originally by the Blazers, sixties
Rautalanka - Finnish instro rock - band, from the Hypnomen split-
EP). It also has two previously unreleased tracks: Penetration and
Hava Nagila, both from the Interstellar Stomp recording session.
And finally, it has two live tracks, from July of '98 (the same show
that also gave us Jon & the Nightriders' "Alive And Raw" CD):
Moroccan Adventures and The Space Victory Theme. It would have been
nice to include some more live stuff, but I actually had to fight a
bit to have any live tracks included. Oh, it also has Transylvanian
Orbit (Romanian Dance of the Undead) from the Monster Party 2000
CD. The rest of the stuff is from the two CDs. So, it has six or
seven tracks that might be attractive to the fans, and it's a hell
of an introduction for people that don't have much if anything by
the band. Given that the prices of both Interstellar Stomp and Tsar
Wars are now in the $30-$50 range (which absolutely blows my mind),
it's really nice that there will be a reasonably priced CD out there
for any new surf music fans.
Ivan
PS We have a live version of Red Sunrise which is REALLY good. Much
better than the studio version, I think. I was bummed out we didn't
get to include that one.

Just for grins, I checked the iTunes store for THE SPACE COSSACKS. There is
only one
song, but there is one. It is part of a compilation, which has some other good
stuff on it.
At $0.99 per song, it isn't too risky. The URL is
id=81259445&s=143441

Thanks, Ted!! That's very nice, but likely to send most non-surf
guitarists into uninterruptable fits of laughter!

My signature model! Now THERE'S a thought!! How cool would that be!
Ahem.. OK, I'm back down to earth now, but for the sake of argument:
I'd definitely nix the 12" radius! Leave that for the SRV-wannabes!
I really love the vintage curvature of the fretboard. Maybe not
bending friendly, but I couldn't care less. I love to fight that
guitar!

Haha, I'll practice real hard so one day I can get one. It'll be
great, american standard tuners, 9.0 radius, medium jumbo frets, and
lace sensor Jaguar pickups :)

As Bugs Bunny would say, "What a moroon!" After a few doubts
materialized in my mind, I tracked down the actual tracklist for the
CD, and it turns out the live version of "Red Sunrise" IS on the CD!
What is not on CD is the live version of "The Space Victory Theme",
which was really good, too, and a contender to be included. Sorry
about that, I got confused, it's been a few months since I've looked
at the tracklist. Anyway, now you'll have a chance to see for
yourselves whether the live RS is better than the studio version.

I like the traditional strat radius as well. It feels so comfortable under the
curl of my fingers. Did SRV really go with a 12" radius?

The focus of that thread was on the guitar, not the signature guitarist. I think
it would be fine to hear from more people who play the E.J. Strat and how it
plays in surf music applications. I saw 3 Balls of Fire play earlier this year
and the bassist had a Sting signature Bass. Now Sting, as a solo artist, is one
boring cat but the bass sounded and played great (I sat in on a tune). It was
one of those '50's Precision style jobs.
I return us now to our regularly scheduled discussion of The Space Cossacks. I
was at the show from which the live cuts for the new Best of were pulled. It was
some great stuff and should be released in its entirety.

btw, it's cheaper at musick (if you count shipping costs), but they

just easier.

Its not quite everything they ever did. There are plenty of album
tracks missing. There are also comp tracks missing.
Ivan did you ever do a version of Journey to the Stars? I am not quite
sure if the MP3 I have downloaded from way back in the day is you guys
or not. I should dig it up again, it is buried in disks not hard
drives as my hard drive likes to crash once a year. Of every version I
have ever heard it is second only to Man or Astro-Man?'s take.
And I would normally just consult the Space Cossacks website but their
website with the Discography has been down for sometime. We need to
get that site a home again.
If it is a matter of energy and time, and you still have the website
information saved, I'll host it on my school site. I just want people
to be able to learn about the Cossacks. No bandwith limitations, only
size(of which there should be plenty). I also noticed the website Cat
and Charlie hosted about them stopped working.

Jacob is right. It's not a complete collection of the Cossacks, not
by a long shot. But there will be 24 tracks on the CD, which is
quite a lot. So, four previously unreleased tracks, 2 previously
unreleased on CD, one from the Monster Party comp, and then 17 from
the two CDs (out of 30 that apepared on our two CDs).

Thanks, Jacob. Yeah, we did that for Swingin' Creepers - the
Ventures Tribute on MuSick. If you don't have that comp, i would
HIGHLY recommend you get the whole thing. it's really a fantastic,
fantastic tribute, one of the best ones I've ever heard.

Actually, I do have the website info saved. Brian was going to put
up somewhere on the SG101 site, but I just never got around to
asking him to do that. If you want to host it, that would
definitely work for me. Stay put, and I'll let you know. A big
thanks!!!
