Cheap Mosrite Copies

slippy_the_backflipping_frog - 15 Jan 2003 15:02:26

Hey this is my first time posting here. I'm looking for an
affordable Mosrite replica, and was wondering if anybody here had a
recommendation. I like to think that I play surf and punk. My band
used to have two guitars, but now I'm on my own, so I need a pretty
big sound to fill the gap. Anybody know what I might be looking for?
Thanks, Elliot

I have a Yamaha SGV 300 I got off of eBay for $250 (with case and
shipping!), and I love it. It looks like a Mosrite if you a.) squint
and b.) ignore the fact that it only sorta looks like one from a
distance.
I dig it quite a bit, though. I think the Musician's Friend website
has some pictures of them, if not then try Sam Ash or Mars Music; I
know for a fact one of the three does, although I think it's the
first one. Cheap, yes. Mosrite copy? Sort of. Hope this helps.
Speaking of help ... "Mar Gaya" tabs anyone? Please?

The Univox's are the most popular and prevalent
Mosrite replicas, but they don't fall under the
category of "affordable" thanks Kurt Cobain. Guitars
that are probably not worth more than $150 regularly
go for $300 or more. If you want to see more
Mosriteesque knock-offs go check out
There's plenty of stuff out there, good luck finding
it. I've also been checking out the DiPinto guitars
recently. Very cool looking and by all accounts very
nice. They're not exactly cheap, but not as much as a
high end brand name would run you.

The Dano Hodads are kinda reminicent of the Mosrite in look, but not
sound. They are cheap. I gotta Hodad Baritone with a nice sparklin'
black 'n silver (counter top style) finish.
