re: Phil's trip into obscurity land.... (is still Obscure cd's or just bands)

unlunf - 02 Nov 2005 02:17:48

Must... resist.... urge.... to.... steal.... Phil's..... list!
Holey Moley, Phil, that's 1557 groups/people that only a DJ
could ever hear about, let alone own. Of course, you did say
that you included 'influential' groups, even if strictly
speaking, they weren't surf bands.
Looks like it's time to go visit my cousin over at a used
record/CD store called Golden Oldies. He's gonna raise his
Chinese laundry bill when he sees what I want now. <lol>

and I deleted about 500 of much lower relevence... also, beware, some
are artists that only occasionally did surf, or covered surf in a
non-surf style... and I left out the REALLY seldom do surf list too -
the Heartbreakers and the Grateful Dead for instance.

Awww, come on, Phil, have a heart, willya? I was just about
to pay off the mortgage, and maybe do a little traveling,
and what do you do to an old man? That's right, you blow
his dreams all to hell and gone with this new madcap desire
to seek out and listen to more groups than I've *ever* heard
of before. <lol>
And I -think- this has something to do with why the frau is
not speaking to me at the moment. Any advice on that point?
j/k! <g>
~!~!~!~
Wooohooo, I just found a couple more in my collection that
Phil didn't list:
Southern Culture on the Skids. Great sounds when they decide
to do it right (neo-surf instro's), but they're much more into
vocals, some cover, some original. Sadly mistaken waste of
talent, in my book. (Not sure if they could be called
influential, though.)
And Simon Chardiet, outta NYC. Ride the Wild Surf is all
neo-surf instro, check out the tune Gowanus for a decidely
non-Strat surf sound!

I dropped SCOTS 'cuz they get mentioned sometimes on the lists. I also
did not list the Flat Duo Jets for the same reason. Simon Chardiet is
in my list - Simon and the Barsinisters.
As to dealing with the reverb dampener (frau), well that thankfully is
YOUR problem. LOL

unlunf,
i have to agree with you here, every time i've seen these guys i've
wished they would do more instrumentals and less songs involving
throwing fried chicken at the audience. rick miller is one heck of a
guitar player and a walking music encyclopedia....mom

Phil,
I didn't know that the Barsinisters were his group, sorry.
She's calmed down now, but it doesn't look like the CD library
is gonna need any new shelving for awhile longer. <cry> <lol>

Mom,
Are they still doing that??? I woulda thought by now
they'd come up with another gimmick! <lol>
But you gotta love that Miller character, he does know
the business end of guitar, that's for sure. <g>
