2 Bass Questions

Jeff (bigtikidude) - 01 Nov 2005 19:41:12

Ok, first off, On my Kramer Bass( looks like a P bass), I have a Jazz
pick up near the bridge and a Split near the neck. I reall ylike this
sound when both are on, or using just the Neck pick once in awhile.
How many bass players out there have this combo, and is it really
necessary to look for while checking out Fender bass's to buy.
Also I have a 21 fret neck, so the highest note is a E. most Fender
bass's have a 20 fret neck, so it's a D#. Not that I'm going ot be
playing that note alot( or ever in a surf band enviroment)BUt is it
anal of me to want that 21st fret?

Jeff:
It's cool for you to want whatever you want in a bass as
far as features and tone.
Will this bass be used mostly in the surf realm, or do you
have other jobstypes of music that you will be playing? The
split pickup/jazz pickup is very common and desirable for
contemporary bass sounds.
Additionally, the 21-fret neck is often used by
contemporary players.
However I play a single pickup Fender bass with 20 frets.
Just a P-bass, that's all.

DP,
thanks for your input.
If I ever get around to getting into a surf band yeah mainly surf.
But I like rock/metal/some punk also.
I'm actully thiking I'd like to get into a band like
Kyuss/Nebula/Fu Manchu/or Queens of the Stone Age.
be alot easier to find people into that, and possibilty to play
alot more places.
The ultimate would be to have a band that likes and playes both
surf and Heavy rock, and could switch for whatever the gig
needed.
