Surf in Portland?

Rick & Carol Selby (papoon72) - 30 Oct 2005 02:32:51

Yup. Duff's Garage was the place in Portland, OR tonite.
Mars Needs Women opened with a hot, fun, cover-filled opening set.
They were followed by the Ignitrons, who took us to the intersection
of Beach and Blues. These guys are a great, tight trio and left us
with a great 'Intruder' set closer. Nice. The Apehangers were next in
bouffant Elvis with Fenders and reverb mode. As they say of
themselves "Finding Surf Music has improved our lives immensely and
we strive to make people aware of it's great powers with a hint of
cheese." I'll be back. And then, the Verbtones. Capes, masks,
intensity. Kyle and the full quartet tear it up, stepping in to fill
the hole left by the infrequently seen Satan's Pilgrims. A great
ripping set. I'm sorry that I missed them last night. Unfortunately,
we had to leave and missed the (Portland) Volcanoes. So there you
have it, a full night of great surf, MC'ed by Unsteady Freddie, who
now knows how Ignitrons is pronounced. A fine followup to Dirt Fest last week.
And I am looking forward to seeing the 'Verb down here from Seattle
one of these days.
Glad to be getting an extra hour sleep,
Rick
