TWANG SHEBANG - we were LIVE yesterday on FM!

Unsteady Freddie (schizofredric) - 24 Oct 2005 19:37:57

yeah for real
we did TWANG SHEBANG yesterday LIVE from MORE PUBLIC RADIO studios in Oakland
California 4-6 pm
it was streaming simultaneously at MY REAL BROADCAST
thanks go out to the following humans:
DAN COLEMAN, my Program Director
PRENTISS WOODS and JEANNE of More Public Radio
THE AQUAMARINES
SURFER SPUD (of DRIFTING SAND)
it was a challenge (and I use that word loosely) to pull this together -- let's
just say the facilities were not the most updated -- but damn, THE AQUAMARINES
were able to turn what we had into a pretty neat sounding live feed
hope some of you got to hear this special edition of TWANG SHEBANG
Dan Coleman is gonna clean it up a little, fix the balances, etc. -- and then
you will be able to hear it on MY REAL BROADCAST any time you want
RUSS "ACE" and I kicked it back n forth discussing surf music in general, his
influences, the fact that his guitar is 'out of the closet' (which, for San
Francisco, is not a surprise, now, is it?); and the band played their hearts
out (sans dummer) -- OK, it ain't Phil Dirt's "Pit" but hey, for me to have had
this opportunity, I am so so grateful -- we tried our best to present something
entertaining -- and I think we succeeded
DRIFTING SAND's SURFER SPUD came by too, and we discussed the "vocal" side / the
"California sound" part of "surf music" -- got to hear some of the band's
music, and featured some classic tunes from THE RIP CHORDS
also featured music by the GLASGOW TIKI SHAKERS, THE INSECT SURFERS and CHUM --
from CD's I was given at PHIL DIRT's tribute on Saturday night
hopefully we'll get to do this again in the near future
next "studio" edition of TWANG SHEBANG (#29) will feature my interview with PETE
BEST, surrounded by some surf music that I found to be "pop music influenced" --
should sound totally cool when packaged
off to San Jose Airport for the red-eye back to JFK
what a great 3 days this has been
thx to all of ya!
Unsteady Freddie
