The Vara-Tones Headin' Out

Shawn Martin (drumuitar) - 21 Oct 2005 20:21:56

I know it's already been the subject of a thread but I just got this
cd in today. Holy Smokes, this is even better then Jetty Subject to
High Surf. Bill Epps has to be one of the top 5 best surf guitarists
ever. I'd kill (well, that's an exaggeration) to have his tone and
know the secret of his reverb. I think someone mentioned that it
wasn't even a tank, but I find that hard to believe.

Life is short. Play for the music. Wear your heart on your sleeve.

keep me in constant touch with my limitations

Shawn,
I didn't believe it either. One time I was at a Speaker repair
shop, and saw the Vartones cd in the case with all the capcitors and
speakers for sale, etc. I asked the guy whay the cd there.
And he said oh that's the band I'm in.
I told him how some of my friends and I really loved it, and
thought the Reverb sound was just over the top( in a good way).
He told me they used some sort of Rack mount reverb unit, not sure if
it was digital or tank, tube or solid state. But that they did the
Richie Podolor method of plugging strait ino the mixing board if I
recall correctly.
Amazing indeed, I need to get that new one pronto.

I just got this CD over the weekend and I would have to agree with all
of the good things said about this CD. I love JSTHS and I KNOW this
quickly become my new favorite.
THIS IS A MUST HAVE FOR YOUR COLLECTION!

i agree with Kevin, both "Headin' Out" and 'Jetty Subject to High Surf" are must
haves. i
have been listening to them both quite a lot the past few weeks. I wish they had
a bunch
more CDs, I would buy them all!
Does any one out there know what equipment they use? Amps? Guitars?
Thanks
Guy
