THE DEFIANT ONES

rich_from_the_balboas - 20 Oct 2005 23:54:24

In the time before time, the angels fell upon the gear of Leo Fender
and the heavens did not want for reverb and thunder. The Divine
Creator found this favorable, until man was tempted by these sounds…
the sweating grinding pulse of surf punk music, and he chastised the
angels and withheld his love. But in a daring glance the angels
raised their heads to have the gaze of the almighty cast upon their
cheeks. And the power of power smote them and cast them upon the
cold stone and said to them, "show thy face and behold the vengeance
of thy lord". And The Defiant Ones laughed, spit, and played
Miserlou so that it quaked the heavens and the earth. Forever cast
out, these dark angels roam earth in search of retribution, reverb,
and revenge. Know them and know the fury of Surf.

Rock on Rich - I'll be adding this one to my collection for sure. The
stuff I've heard so far is ass-grinding, reverb-soaked insanity. As to
the joker who claims The Defiant Ones aren't surf, then I'm not Butch
Cavefish.
And I am.

Since when does Surf have lyrics?
"Captain Zero" may be surf. The other two samples are not. Not saying it's
not good music. It just ain't surf.

Wow - I haven't checked out the new mp3's on the site - the version I've heard
of those tunes were instro then... I don't think that negates the stuff from
being surf at all. Alot of my favorite surf bands have vocal tunes - Man or
Astro-Man?, The Bomboras, and especially Untamed Youth - all do vocal tunes. And
no offense on the "joker" comment, hopefully, none taken.
Rich - killer stuff again. We're trying to get something hooked up at The
Hustler in Melbourne, I hope you can come see us, it'd be cool to hang out
again.

Most folks have only got a listen at a few tunes, but the record
will hit the stores in about 2 weeks so reserve judgment. The
surf/Punk mix probably goes 70/30 in favor of surf. I am way an
instrumental fan, but the kids need temptin'. Oh and yeah, I might
have been around for a few of those vocals/not threads in the past.
Dogma will get your dick stomped brother. Relax.
Pat rolls with the fish!
