OK, so I spoke directly with the guy who makes those reverb tanks that
Dick mentioned. They're pretty pricey, but the information I really wanted
to know was:
A: Is it the same chassis template Fender uses for their tanks?
B: Is it possible to buy them without the beautiful wood cab?
He'll sell the electronics and chassis without tubes, pan, or cab for
450.00. Still a little high for my taste, but the thought of being able to
drop a non-fender same-as-vintage-but-new electronics layout into my
reissue cab is pretty alluring.

Screw that noise... have you guys ever looked into STF Electronics kit? It's
just like a Fender, P2P wiring (he'll do it, or you can with simple tools)
scroll down to the reverb.....
Complete kit for $279 (I'd still opt for a repro Fender on ebay, but that's
just me...)
he's in my town, but I've never met or heard of him. I guess I oughta one
day, eh?

Robb,
Thanks for that killer link! I was toying with the idea of putting
together "Cap N' Tube mod kits" that included everything you needed to
upgrade a reissue reverb tank, but just forgot about the idea.
When I recover from the Christmas Spending Blues, I'm getting that tank
kit.
