The first "surf" tune I ever learned was Wipeout, followed closely by
Pipeline. The first song of any style I ever learned was Johnny B. Goode.

At 8, I picked out "Down on the Corner" by CCR as my first tune on the geetar.
Now that I think about it, I think that indicates an early affinity for
instrumental guitar music. I didn't gravitate towards a chord based tune like
"Blowin' in the Wind" for my first tune as my friends did.

The Ventures version of Pipeline was the very first song I learned on guitar.
My dad taught me. I can remember trying to show me how to dampen the top E
string to get that reverberated run down that's in the intro. A few years
later, when I moved out, my Dad asked me, "Do you wnat this/(his 1962 Fender
Jazzmaster) I think I'm going to go buy a new telecaster." still sounds
amazing.

This is an interesting question - I first learned "Surf Beat" and the
"Pipeline," not that I can actually play.

first song i learned was "come as you are- nirvana",
on my friends no brand guitar that had airbrush
artwork of a saw coming out of a dudes crotch that
read "F*CK LIKE A BEAST!"
a few months later when i got my own guitar ( 80's
univox, westbury brand ) i had actually learned "walk
dont run" on it first.

Let's see ... the very first thing I learned was the melody from the James Bond
theme (all on the high e).
First song would have been "Blitzkrieg Bop." (Which I learned incorrectly, by
the way.)

Harry G. Pellegrin (harrygpellegrin2003) - 17 Oct 2005 21:41:51

First song? American Pie, though I had tried other tunes first, this one
was the first I could get through.
First surf? Wipeout. Then (and not meaning to add to controversy) learned
a bunch of stuff with those 'Learn to play the Guitar with the Ventures'
albums that my best bud's older brother had.

"Driver 8" which was Pete Buck's attempt at writing a Ventures riff.
(Hmmm?) That was followed by Wild Thing, Louie Louie, Hang on Sloopy
and any other song with G, C and D.
