Big Surf Music Bash in Australia

ipongrac - 16 Oct 2005 18:13:00

I was just surfin' the web, checked out the Atlantics site, and it
turns out just earlier today there was a big Australian surf music
festival, headlined by the Atlantics, but also featuring the great
Denvermen (excellent sixties Australian instro/surf band - actually
sounding a bit more like the Shadows than surf music, but great
nonetheless), who may have reformed for this gig. I haven't heard
anything about them anywhere otherwise... Several other bands were
listed, though I don't recognize them (well, maybe one of them).
Check it out:
(just scroll down a bit)
It's nice to see that surf music is staying alive elsewhere in the
world.

-Ivan,all,
As for some of the other bands on the line up for this gig.
I bought a cd from Ferenc awhile back of the Wetsuits.
Nothing to write home about there, pretty sad if I recall.
But the Alohas are KILLER!! thier cd " Get Laid With" is
outstanding stuff , I highly recomnend it. I beleive dave at
Zptdudah has it.

Hey Jeff! Yeah, I screwed up - I have the Alohas CD, and agree it's
really good. For some reason that name didn't immediately ring a
bell, but after I posted the message I looked again, and remembered
who they are. And of course, Kim Humphreys has been a staple of
Australian surf/instro scene for many years now.
Sounds like a great show. How I wish something like that would be
held close to here....

Kim Humphrey's has an awesome track on the For A Few Guitars More CD.
Is this the same person?

Yep, same guy. Very good guitarist, and tends to take a more modern
approach to surf music. He's issued an Atlantics tribute CD, I
think. I don't actually have any of his CDs (maybe a few songs on a
CD-R somewhere), but I think he's released several things in
Australia.

Sure you got it from me? I tried to never carry
anything that sucked. I remember that band sent me
their CD a few times, but I don't remember having it.
If I did carry it and it was sad and you bought it,
I'm sorry.
Maybe you got it from me at a Hotel Utah show when I
was selling back stock?
I miss running the Mart, but only because I miiss
making cool stuff available and dealing with cool surf
fans. But I think ZPTDuda and Double Crown do a geat
job.
