RE: [SurfGuitar101] Re: Surf Literature two 'zines from great britan

John McCorvey (eddiekatcher) - 12 Oct 2005 20:12:46

Seems like to me there are at least two periodicals being produced in Great
Britan in reference to instumental and surf rock.....One is Pipeline and the
other is the New Gandy Dancer.....ed

documents. Although there are rumors of various projects being
undertaken to document the modern era, the market remains limited.
The Yahoo Surf-related groups give an up to date account of goings on
and you can look into history by studying the archives. Reverb Central
is the modern reference "book" about the art, although it does little to
chronicle the culture and scene. For that,
Periodicals from Double-Crown and other scenes reviewers in the Surf
community serve to fill the gap. Surf sometimes gets co-opted by punk
garage 'zines on the newsstand, but I don't ever see a Surf-dedicated
rag in wide distribution.
Good luck. It's an unserved need.

Yep. These are the types of 'zines I'd be refering people to.
Thing is, generally, Surf 'zines are usually locally distributed and/or
you gotta subscribe with the publisher....which is not a bad thing at
all.
