Re: The Bambi Molesters// possible to tour here???

Jeff (bigtikidude) - 07 Oct 2005 20:56:18

I know that Ferenc( from pollo Del mar) is very busy with a billion
things going on all the time. But he did hel p with Booking the
Surf Coasters from Japan to do a small west coast tour.
How well di d that do for them financially, was it worth it??
Or does their record lable help out with costs?
Dalibor, I'm sure if you posted on all the differnt surf e-groups
that you wnted to play here, bands from each city, could help hook
you up with a gig, and possibly stay at their houses.
It's no huge rock and roll tour, but it would be great to see ya
out here. I'd definetly help get the word out.
Jeff(bigtikidude)
p.s. some of the Surf Coasters shows here, had terrific turnouts.

The Seattle and Vancouver had very good turnouts. I do believe the
Surf Coasters had finacial help from Square Enix, which is a very big
company in Japan. This is because it was a promotional thing for one
of their video games.
If it will help with the Bambi Molesters coming to the states then
they can stay at my house, which is very near to Seattle. I am willing
to make that sacrafice, of course it would be a great honor and not a
sacrafice.

I'm all for The Bambi Molesters and some other good surf bands to play
the Huntington Pier on July 4th. The lineup would be like this:
Dick Dale
Jon & The Night Riders
Bambi Molesters
Surfaris
I'll put up the Bambis at my 3300 Sq ft shack a few blocks from the pier.

HB seacliff,
Only problem is, $$$$. I don't think that DD or the Bambi Molestorss
would do the Pier for free like the bands usually do.

I know what you mean. I was thinking that the city of HB would pony
up to promote the Surf City thing like Newport did with the Beach
Boys recently. We can always dream...

FWIW, the Surf coasters broke even, or cam e close.
The didn't get that much money from Square Enix,
although every little bit helps. They did fantastic
with merch sales, which floated the tour.
I would love to see the Bambi Molesters here. I think
its doable...

I have question. Did they stay in a hotel everynight and rent a van?
If somebody would be so gracious to let the Bambi Molesters borrow a
reliable van and people in various towns would let them crash in their
houses then it could be much more economically viable. The only
downside are those damn plane ticket prices.

Using Priceline.com I was able to get them some
amazing deals on hotels, usually not more than $45 per
room a night. They stayed at my house for a week for
the Bay area shows. Couch suring gets old quick,
especially when you get in late and have to leave
early. As for a van, I think it was $400 a week. You
have to rent a van, someone would have to be really
gracious to let a band put 1000s of miles on their
personal vehicle. Also, I imagine that the Bambi
Molesters would want to do more than just the West
Coast or East Coast, which means you'd have to figure
out if you want to drive or fly. The Anacondas had a
great low budget tour a few years ago, traveling
around with Daikaiju. I guess it depends on how much
adventure/vacation vs actual tour you want.

Unfortunetly,
I don't think that will happen. HB is all about income.
All they want to do is promote the shopping/dinning/hotels of the
city, to help bring in more tax revenue.
But you would think that they'd throw a few bones to all the bands
that played the HB pier. I mean what's $100 a band??
Ok, off my soapbox, I'm starting to sound like a hall monitor
from another yahoo group.

Well, it seems it is doable:) I wanted to go in US as a tourist
anyway and I'm sure that other band members would love to come also.
Of course if we do a non or low paid gigs we would appreciate bigger
crowd (more than 100 people) otherwise it doesn't make sense. So, as
I said, let's see. $400 a week for van doesn't sound bad. $45 for
room per night is also OK. What about renting the equipment? What is
the usual price?

I really don't know about renting gear in the US. I would think people
would love to loan you some gear. If you come to Seattle you have a
blackface Showman, BF Bandmaster, BF Tremolux, Hot Rod Deville(we use
it for Bass), and a strat, two Jazzmaster, and 2 Jaguar's at your
disposal. And a Fender Jazz Bass. And Reverb Units. I am speaking for
our lead guitarist as well. I am sure he would consent. Big Bambi
Molesters fan like myself. We watch the Backstage DVD all the time. Of
course you have the Peter Buck connection up here in Seattle as well.
I am sure he has some nice gear. Lada and Hrvoje came out to Seattle
didn't they or did I make that up? It is a great town and I am sure
Peter would have no problem getting you a gig.

Hello Dalibor!
Yeah, it is not as common to rent a surf backline in the US like US
bands do when they go over there. You can use ours if you play
Portland-maybe I can get a club to fly me back for another show so we
can play together-we owe you one.

Hello Dalibor! Wow, it would be incredible if the Bambis could do a
US tour! Count us (the Madeira) in on helping you set up any shows we
could (Indy, Detroit, general midwest area). When we toured the west
coast we were always able to borrow equipment from other surf bands we
played with. I know Jon & the Nightriders did the same when they did
the short tour of the south as part of Surfari '97. We'd be happy to
let you have our gear. My guess is that you would also be able to
stay with people in other bands if you wanted to save some money on
lodging. We'd definitely put you up!
As far as I'm concerned, the Bambis are the leading ambassadors of
surf music around the world today, maybe second only to the old man,
and it's high time you played the US! I'm sure Peter Buck and the
other guys could hook you up with some show promoters, too.
Let us know how we can be of help.
Best,
Ivan

Well if you decide to hit the east coast at all, there are plenty of people here
who would
love to help out with equiptment, gigs etc. as well.
Of course, what US Tour would be complete without visiting NYC and DC? :-)

I'm sure the people at the Huntington Beach International Surfing
Museum could hook you up with plenty of local artists that may loan
you equipment. Linda "Mamma Surf Band" seems to know everyone. Im sure
you could draw a decent cround for a Sunday show on the beach at the
Huntington Pier.

Dalibor! All this talk is making me giddy like a school girl. In the
unlikely event you would want to stop in the midwest, I'd be very glad
to do anything to help you guys...I have a Dual Showman, a reverb
tank, a Jaguar, and a place to sleep..!
In any event, I would definitely fly/drive/run to wherever you end up
touring...no doubt about that...
I hope you guys can pull this off!

Do you have a time frame in mind? We might be able to work in a show here in
the East with enough lead time. Equipment and transportation would be no
problem here in Atlanta....
