Hi All,
I'm in the process of considering to buy a Fender amp.
But first I would like to know some opinions on it.
So far I found one amp that fits my budget. It is a 63 (or a bit later)
Fender Bandmaster with the original Speaker cabinet.
It is a black one. It has four channels two normal and two Tremolo
channels.
The asking price is 750 Euro (+/- $ 750), which is retubed and
completely checked. I played on it and it sounds nice and clean.
Now for the questions;
* Is it worth it?
* would it be usefull for surf?
* And does it have certain specifics which I outa take care of, sound
wise I mean.
* Or do you guys think I need to look further?
Thanks,
Jerry S. (from Belgium)

I use a 64 bandmaster since I started playing surf
music in small clubs. I would say its worth the 750
euros, if its really in fine working order.
The cabinet has got 2 12s and there are many options
to try other speakers in it.
It only has got two pre-amp channels, each with two
inputs. Unless its been re-dressed its newer than 63,
I dont know if Fender made black Bandmaster as early
as 64.
Live I used both channels simultaneously, with a short
patchcord. The tremolo is really weak, and the left
channel (without tremolo) sounds clearer and more
punchy, so I like to use that one for recording with a
Schaller tremolo stompbox. Over the time I had all the
mods reversed that the previous owner had done to it,
and added a pot for gradually removing the negative
feedback loop from the output transformer, which gives
the option of wilder tone, like older Fender amps.
Its really a good reliable workhorse of an amp,
capable of playing to two hundred people without a
p.a..
