Re: [SurfGuitar101] Digest Number 1520

Unsteady Freddie (schizofredric) - 04 Oct 2005 08:25:06

Freddie,
Do the "Volcanos" you mentioned know there already is a fabulous surf
band called The Volcanos from Detroit? The Michigan Volcanos have been
around since the 90's and have 2 full length CDs and a ton of 7"'s.
Plus they have appeared on numerous comps.
Also, do the bands you mention have websites? I've heard of the
Verbtones, but do the rest bill themselves as surf bands? Just curious.
Thanks,
BN
hey Brian
did you see the poster they did?
with me on there as 'special guest' MC?
that's insane!
anyway I will pass this email on the THE APEHANGERS and let them answer
will post a response here when I get one

for Brian,
further info sent to me from the APEHANGERS

Yes I know about the Volcanos. The "Portland" Volacanos are actually
friends of mine who usually use the name "Tailfins". They were a
pretty hot Rockabilly group from way back in Portland. They do a
version of Link Wrays "Rumble" better than anything I've ever heard.
Yes I know about the "real" Volcanos. Got a couple of their Cd's.
They freak'n Rock!
This Portland band however, does not come out to play very often
anymore. They don't have cd's for their surf music(just their
rockabilly) and they don't have a website. I should however send you
a mp3 of one or two of their original tunes. The Guitarist owns
Duff"s and is one of the better guitarists I've ever heard. Besides,
They are only on the bill to entice people to come as a fifth band
rather than be a full act. They will play 2-3 songs to get the crowd
warmed up. I hope this didn't create any waves. If so let me know
and I'll see what I can do about the fly er.
To check out "Mars Needs Women"=
The Ignitrons are a bit more Hot Rod I would say. Their guitar
player Dave Ward will rip the skin from your face as you attempt to
drink your beer. They have many original compositions and have a cd
of their own. No website yet.
