From across the pond, here's a video clip (shot from the audience) of
London's Rapiers at the recent Shadowmania festival doing "Gonzales",
originally done by The Shadows on their debut LP in 1961.

The dance moves seem kind of corny, but it's a great song and
performance. I have to say though, I've seen The Troubadours do this
song twice, and was blown away by their version. They put a lot more
energy into it. Still, it's very cool. These Rapiers guys are Shadows
Trad to a T.

Kind of endearing to to see what a Shadows show was like in the early 60's.
Makes me feel
like a Cro-Mag.

Thanks Brian. I was thinking the same thing. From what little I've
seen of other Shadows tribute bands, it seems like they have tried so
hard to reproduce the look and movements of the Shadows that they have
lost a lot of the spirit.
I wasn't completely won over to the Shadows until Ivan gave me a copy
of a live show they did in South Africa. They absolutely wailed away
on every song like they were playing for their lives. Not only were
they more aggressive live, they were also much tighter than on most of
their 60's recordings.
I think it's a shame that so many tribute bands are recreating the
(dare I say) dull and tired Shadows show from the 90's to present
instead of rekindling the flame that took the world by storm in the
60's.
