I am 21 and I have no idea to fathom how popular surf music was back
in the '60s. Can anybody here breakdown just how popular surf was
compared to the other genres of music at the time.
And were the '60s actually the height of surf music or has the height
of surf been since then. In other words, it may not be more mainstream
but are there more bands? Or something in the general direction.
I know that my father was into it by the time it was
about over; mid to late '60's. I think he got turned
onto it mostly via The Beach Boys, who have always
been his #1 favorite. He grew up (as I did) in a
really small town in Georgia, so I'm assuming it was
getting radio play all over the country, not just
California.
