Hiho.
I was recently annoyed by this lose trem arm in my strat. so what to
do? These modern springs to keep the trem arm in position do not work
on my strat. So I started to check different other ways. The final
solution was: cling film. Yes, this ordinary see-through plastics
stuff. I wrapped one or two layers onto the thread of the arm and just
screwed it in as used to. The trem arm now keeps it´s position
perfectly where I want it to.
I hope this has not been posted about a thousand times.
Regards,
Theo
Theo,
I constructed a "sleeve" out of clear vinyl air tubing
(aquarium hose)...the "sleeve" acts as a sort of "collar"
dirctly above the threads and acts to keep my Strat-style
trem arm parallel to the strings like I like it. I have to
replace it every now and again.
your solution sounds innovative and it sounds like it does
the trick...good job!

hey what do you mean by modern spring ? i keep a
spring in my trem almost similiar to that youd find in
a spring loaded ballpoint pen.
however i carry my trem with me all the time, so saran
wrap would never work for me :( about every year my
trem strarts to not stick so well, when i take it off,
only black soot comes out from what once use to be a
spring.

Yes it is exactly that spring. I think only the newer strats are
delivered with them. My vintage trem has a drill through the whole
block which does not allow me to use a spring.

Thanks!
I use teflon plumbing tape myself. I hadn't thought of cling wrap.
Good idea!

I just slightly bend the treaded part and it adds
tension to the fit.....do the same for Jazzmasters and
Jaguars....It doesn't take much, Just ever so
much.......eddie k

I also thought about bending the tread, but it was not possible for me
as I do not own a vice or something usefull to do this. I also feared
to bend with too much power, as I already broke one trem arm in the
guitar. These things are unbelievably expensive in germany. The trem
arm´s price is 14. Thats astronomic for a bended piece of iron, isn´t
it?

Theo
I have an old Strat but the springs I bought are for newer Strats. So
I clipped the springs shorter with a wire snipper. After a while, the
springs lose their springiness, so I use a dental tool to remove the
spent spring and replace. mb
