National

octavianrnr - 25 Sep 2005 17:00:24

Maybe someone can help me with this? I found an early 60's National for
sale but I was told that the pickups wich look like humbuckers are
actualy single coils. I tested it out on an old amp but half of the
knobs on this thing didn't work and it was hard to tell. It really
sounded like crap and it was very muddy and the neck joint was loose
but I'll but it anyhow because I'm stupid like that. I just hope that
the pickups are in fact single coils. Any help would be appreciated.

Dude, just from what you've said here I don't think
I'd go for it. What model National is it? If they
look like 'buckers then I would think that they
are...if it's one of the models I'm thinking of then
as far as I know that's all they came with.

---I don't know the model exactly, it sort of looks like a Glenwood
but there were I think 6 knobs across the top of the pickups, a main
volume near the jackplug and a selector switch on the bottom left.
It also had a wooden acoustic bridge and a tremolo bar. Maybe it was
the Airlines that had singles in a humbucker case, I don't remember.
I read that the necks on these things didn't have a trussrod and if
the neck warps they are worthless. You can always make a clock or
coffee table out of 'em, although it would be quite expensive. I
think i will take your advise and pass on this one.
