Hey All,
The Boys and I gathered around the Samsung monitor and
"tuned in" to Phil Dirt's last KFJC show via the
netcast (32 kbps Windows Media Player feed). It was an
awesome show. Before it started, there was some noisy
electronica, ambient, techno or something playing...it
was then obvious when Phil's segment began because
real music started playing, which bloomed out in
Technicolor from the drab B+W.
The netcast was fine for the most part...however, a
dropout hit...and when the streaming audio resumed, I
heard the last 6 or so bars of "The Disadvantages Of
You" by The Lost Boys of Penzance. What luck. This
track, BTW, is one of the free MP3s from the Cordelia
Records "Beyond The Sea" surf comp album web site:
So, I heard with my own ears that we were part of
Phil's last show. Once again, we (the little boys) are
honored. Thank you, Phil.
Ferenc of Pollo Del Mar (the big boys) came on to
speak sometime after 10 p.m. He opened with a joke
saying something like "Thank you for having us...I
look forward to coming back many more times". After a
"shout-out" to the geeks listening from SG101, he
mentioned about starting a band called "SOPD", Sons Of
Phil Dirt. This was his humorous segue announcing the
Oct. 22 shindig in honor of Phil.
Phil's leaving the airwaves after 25 years creates a
big void...yeah, I'm stating the obvious.....
