Richard is entirely correct. The new Love Tractor (which performed
at SXSW last March) has only one original member -- Mike Richmond.
They've long since abandoned the instro format, BTW. Originally they
used to perform as two guys with guitars and a rhythm box, and with
no vocals at all (not even any microphones), but they soon added a
live drummer.
For a while their lineup included Kit Swartz, guitarist/vocalist of
the supercool Athens band called The Side Effects, whose shows were
about half instros (all originals) but who only recorded one doomy-
sounding EP before they broke up. Alas, The Side Effects' best
instros -- including "Kurt's Revenge" and "Spy Love Song" only exist
on bootleg cassette tapes (mostly recorded live in noisy clubs)
carefully hoarded by fanatical collectors of such stuff.
Here's a link to the Love Tractor article Richard mentioned:
Here's a link to a site where you can hear The Side Effects' lone EP
for free. (No instros, alas, but give "Pyramids" a try for a sample
of their Mosrite-bass-and-Mosrite-guitar sound on a decent vocal
tune.)
Enjoy!
