I recently got a pretty good deal on a DiPinto Galaxie 4 (Factory 2nd, $325
from DiPinto's shop in Philly). It has 4 single coils with 4 rocker
switches, and I've noticed that there's a pretty significant difference in
volume for different combinations of pickups.
This might be a silly question, but does pickup height directly affect the
output of that pickup? The heights are staggered, with the bridge pickup
being the highest. I've never had adjust the heights on any other guitars,
so I'm not sure how much of a difference this really makes...
Thanks

Hi, Yes I had a Galaxie 4 as well and my experience is that the pickups are
wound quite a bit hotter than standard stra pickups. I dropped all of them to
8/64" on the bass side and 6/64" on the treble side this seemto even things
out and also seemed to take a little edge off the highs.

Thanks! I'll give it a shot...

More pick-ups in parallel mean lower impedance, making he output brighter but
also less
volume.

It does to a certain extent, trial and error is a good method here. You don't
hurt the guitar,
and it's the easiest way you make the guitar custom to your needs.

That is a pretty good deal. I got mine for $300 and it included free
shipping and a gig bag. Store said it was a demo and has some minor
blemishes. Turns out someone had flipped the bridge around so the
intonation was all wrong and the stings buzzed really bad. I flipped
the bridge back around and it was good as new.
The pickups are really high and the output is really loud so I plan
on messing with the height some to balance everything out. Altough
the high output drives my distortion pedal into a place it's never
been before, and I think it likes it. The pickups being that close
to the strings bothers me anyway and the magnets have to be
affecting the string vibration being that close.
