are you talkin' about the song that was on this list or somewhere on
the net and refferenced to on this list as "flight of the bumblebee"?
it was a live recording?
if so, i have figured it out for a large part, the stand meloedies in
any case, I could do you a written version and mail it as jpeg, not
to fond of those txt like tabs. drop me a line of list if i can help.
as for how incredibly awesome great a player an transcriber I am
(LOL, wink, TIC), windows media player has this nice feature
called "play half speed" - and it still was pretty fast. i can't get
anywhere near the speed the surf caosters play it at (and i don't
know any other version) - and at a lesser speed, the whole idea of
the song sorta dissapears imo.

Carol, the two versions I can think of that are much more managable
are by the Ventures and the Atlantics.
The Ventures:
the studio version ("Bumble Bee Twist") appears on the album "Twist
With the Ventures"; there are also two live versions, one on the quasi-
live album "On Stage" and the other on the kick-ass real live
album "Live In Japan '65".
The Atlantics:
"Bumble Boogie" was the b-side of their next-to-final instro single
from '65 ("Goldfinger" was the a-side). You can find it on two
CDs: "The Explosive Sound of the Atlantics" (Repertoire Records)
or "The Complete CBS Recordings, Vol. 2" (Canetoad Records).
Hope that helps.

doh! man, what a list.
just listened (in fact: am listening for the 5th time) to the
Ventures live '65 version (the only one that i knew for sure I had
upon seeing Phil's list) and i must say, however impressive the Surf
coasters are, I like the ventures version a shitload better, mainly
because of the timing and stacato-ish details. Not a ventures fan per
se, but I love that aspect of their playing.
what's cool about the SC version is that, where the Vs have the 'fly-
around' riff down and up between e and c - imitating insect flying
through the room - the SC play on the same idea, yet lift up to f
every second riff. and, since an insects pitch gets higher aproaching
you due to the Doppler-effect, that little thingy very accuratly
mimmick a mosquito flying right by your ear - you know, when you try
to hit it and end up missing it, slamming yourself in the head
instead. for that, and for SC shredder-speed it should be called
Mosquito stomp.
any other version have that variation?
