4/ 6 spring Re: reverb tank tech question IS: follow up on tank building thread

mono_tones_1 - 09 Sep 2005 03:45:53

as said, 6 sping no good for surf. it has more mid/low, and mainly,
less attack/transient. which kills your splash.
it MIGHT be a good solution if you lack in the reverb driver
department (as in an onboard) but it will still not give you more
splash, just more reverberation. the Fender 75 combo has a 6spring
standard, and it was a great solution 'till I had saved up for a tank.
in an 6K6 driven circuit, the 6spring doesn't do much good for surf
imho.
a 6spring IS however great for calexico like deep reverb, and perhaps
spagettti western sort a sound.
I am positive that if you buy it, you 'll use it once and then never
again, because you're not going to open up and change the tank every
now and then for change of sound. what might be a good idea is to
have both the 6 and 4 spring in the box, and build in a flip switch -
that way you could conveniently use the different tank every now and
then.
the unit I have (cosmoverb) actually has that option when you buy it,
but at 100 euro's more, I didn't go that way, figured I could always
build it in myself for half the money if need be. never thought it
worthwhile though.

Well after reading all these experienced responses regarding the 6
spring tank I think I'll just save my experimental $40...
and as Rose Ann Roseanna Danna once said:
"nevermind..."
