Surfer's Choice

fiberglassrocket - 06 Sep 2005 13:26:25

All,
I'm curious about something regarding Dick Dale's first LP. If anyone
reading this has a copy of the original album on Deltone 1001 (NOT the
Capitol pressing, Deltone 1886), could you please check the master numbers
that are etched in the runoff area of the vinyl on both sides. If any
other characters besides "RE1" appear at the end of the master numbers on
your copy, I'd like to know what they are.
Please respond to me off list (remember, this only applies to Deltone 1001
and not Deltone 1886).
Thanks,
john blair

-John,
I'll dig it out tomorrow and look at it.
Is there any diffference between the Deltone and the Capitol
pressings? Should I pick up a Capitol pressign if I see one?

There is no difference between the original Deltone pressing (Deltone 1001)
and the Capitol pressing of "Surfer's Choice" (Deltone 1886) in terms of
the tracks. When Dick signed with Capitol in early '63, the label struck a
new master of the LP and used a different pressing plant.
