63 Reverb Reissue Chassis Photos?

stratrhythm - 06 Sep 2005 01:07:15

Would someone who has a reissue 63 Reverb please post some photos of
the chassis, circuit boards, etc, etc. I'm thinking about a hoffman
board and I want to see what I'm getting into.
Thanks, Dave

Dick Messick has a MS-Word document in the file area that contains
several photos of the guts of a reverb unit. The file is
called "6G15.doc" and the description is "Assorted pictures of the
6G15 reverb circuit wiring".

what is your plan, do you have a RI and want to drop in a Hoffman
board - or do you want to build a tank yourself starting with the
Hoffman board?

WR, My thought is to get a used reissue and essentially revamp it
PTP.
Brian, the pictures in the file are of originals not reissues.

I'm sorry Dave, I didn't read your post carefully. But the Hoffman
board is probably going to be more closer to a PTP original than the
reissue 'verb. Dick Messick built something like this, perhaps he will
chime in.

Dave is correct - those photos were gleaned from various ebay listings and
such on the Internet, and are of the original (i.e., not reissue) 'verb
units. I collected them to help me with the wiring in my 6G15 reverb kit.
I built a unit based on the 6G15 circuit - a little bit different from the
reissue circuitry.
I took some quick shots of the guts of my reissue and placed them in the
Photos section of the Yahoo! SurfGuitar101 site in a folder called "'63
Reissue Tank Circuit". I just snapped a few quick shots on the dining room
table - they're not too good and a bit washed out with the flash, but they
should give you a good idea of the various board connections.
Keep in mind that if you do the Hoffman board, you'll also be replacing the
pots and jacks (in the reissue, these are connected to the main board with
two ribbon cables. If you look carefully, you can see this arrangement in
the "Reissue Board 2" photo (along with my replacement cap in the "C10"
spot).
The Hoffman board is closer to the "original" - it's a really nice and
elegant board kit! Although I don't think he sells them directly anymore,
Doug Hoffman is a great guy and very helpful - his website is a treasure
trove for those thinking of building/modding a reverb tank (or an amp, for
that matter!). The bulletin board on his site is quite helpful, too, for
those thinking of installing a PTP board in a reissue, or for those building
a reverb circuit. IMHO, the Hoffman board kit is a great choice as a swap
for the reissue board, if you want to go in that direction. If you are
handy with a soldering iron, I don't that this swap should be any trouble at
all.
Let me know if you would like any additional pics or details. Good luck!
-Dick
