Re: [SurfGuitar101] Tone Control (Bassman Amp) and others

John McCorvey (eddiekatcher) - 05 Sep 2005 21:46:56

Most Fender amps share a common tone stack
configuration and as such, can be setup in a similar
manner.....one thing though, the Treble and Bass
controls have way more authority than does the Mid
control. Try this.....bring up your treble control to
about 4, set the mid control at say 4 or 5, then start
playing away and slowly bring up the Bass control
until the sound fills out but doesn,t get too
tubby....of course you start this routine with your
guitar volume and tone WFO.....then carefully tweek
until you're a happy camper....Oh, and when you're
using a tank, the tank actually has slightly negative
gain so you'll have to tweak up the Volume to
compensate.....I usually set up with just a tad more
brillance that necessary and roll off the response
just a bit with the tone pot on my guitar.....this
gives just a little bit more overall control from the
guitar......I don't have to get to my amp to
tweak.....Oh, yeah and as you go along, blasting away
during your set, your ears will slowly loose their
ability to process highs so be careful about
overcorrecting and killing the crowd up front....as
well as yourself. Take care of your ears, they are
the only ones you'll ever have......eddie k
