Re: [SurfGuitar101] Tone Control (Bassman Amp)

DP (noetical1) - 05 Sep 2005 14:20:24

atbrcr:
I play through a Bassman...through the "bass instrument"
channel, in fact. My guitar is a Strat-like design with
lipstick pickups. I typically run the guitar flat-out full
volume and full treble on the tone knob. My amp is
typically set at 7 on treble control and 5-6 on the bass
control at a volume of 4-5 for practice and 6-7 for louder
situations. Of course, my "sound" does not mimic a Jaguar
or Jazzmaster or even a Stratocaster...it is probably
closer to a "beefy" Telecaster or Danelectro.
My neck pickup has a full sound for lead work, the middle
position has a nice full-bodied twang, and the bridge
position is more jangle-y.
I like the Bassman for guitar, it provides a nice
full-bodied tone and ample volume. My speakers are 2x12
Celestions, not 100% trad surf speakers, but they do a fine
job nonetheless. In fact, I'd say, most of my "sound" or
"tone" come from the Bassman. A sturdy amp that can still
be acquired for a reasonable price.

Many thanks to your replies. In regards to tone settings do you tend to use
more mids and treble and less bass or is there a certain balance there that
i'm missing? Thanks ye surf kahunas.
