45's

urbansurfkings - 28 Aug 2005 08:38:32

Just got back from vacation in Europe and noticed the 45 market is
still going fairly strong. Got me thinking about releasing another on
(we did one in 1999). Is anybody still buying new 45's on this list?
Is the 45 market for surf music still viable in all your opinions? I
think they are just so cool.
Thanks,
Mike/ USK

Mike - I too love 45s, but I don't think there is a viable market for them
except in Europe. I don't think its worth the cost of mixing & manufacturing,
unless of course you have a label or some third party putting it out for you, in
which case, i say go for it. We self-produced a limited run a couple years ago
& still have some left & I think I can say that 95% of them were sold to non-US
residents

45 releases are few and far between, and then hard to find in retail.

I'm also a big fan of 45's and buy them whenever I see
them.

Mike,
I am not ahuge fan of Vinyl, but I am a collector of Surf Music.
If there is something on Vinyl that is not on cd then I'll buy it.
Or if it's got really cool art work too!
What are you plannin' on puttin' on it?
Some bands will do 2 songs from a cd, and 2 previously unissued.
But then there is always a ep of unreleased stuff ala the
Huntington Cads "Big Guitars Western Style" 4 Speghetti style tunes
not on either of their cd's. I have it on Black Vinyl and on Clear
Orange. I heard Black sounds better than colored Vinyl( but don't
know if that is true).
Adrien from CHUM said he wants to do a 45 also. He said the
pressing plant that is doin' the New CHUM cd also does Viynl.
Good luck, let us know what you come up with.
